I wasn't sure wether to put this here or in ritual and magic, so feel free to move it if you feel the need.
Ok well i've read the books..but i'm not really sure how to go about writing a spell. Now i'm not asking anyone to write one for me, but if anyone could give me hints about whats important to have? Is casting the circle apart of the spell too?? im not sure. Bright blessings, mystical_moon -------------------- |

I just tend to say what's on my mind because I don't want to spend more time worrying about trying to remember something than focusing on the intention of the working
Some people like theirs to rhyme so I would think of several pertinent words which rhyme like hex and next and sex and then fill in with words calling, requesting, thanking, asking. Like writing a poem Julia -------------------- Remember, the light at the end of the tunnel may be you (Aerosmith)

If its something I intend to use more than once, then I make it short and memorable (which usually means it rhymes) and recite it using key phrases as points of focus for the visualistion and will.
I am trying to get to grips with the art of composing haikus as this I think would be useful for spell work. If it is something that is a one off and impromptu it comes as it comes and is purely driven by the force of will and visualising. I'm still confused. Do you have to write protection into a spell or should that only be done for rituals?

Protection for what??
Edit: Ah! Just had a look at your profile...you're coming from a Wiccan angle with this question I'm guessing in which case I can be of little help if there are certain 'things' Wiccans put into spells, as I know little about that path - sorry This post has been edited by Hearth Witch: Sep 28 2005, 06:53 PM |

Mystical Moon - there's a great book by the Farrars called Spells and How They Work which is written from a Wiccan perspective - see if your local library has it, it might well help point you in the right direction.
-------------------- Might have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

also, this is one thing that books containing spells are good for (in fact, the only thing) read a few and it's good for inspiration.
I've never used a spell from a book, but I've found some interesting ideas for how to put them together. that Element Encyclopoedia one is actually a very interesting read. I see it more as a collection of examples than as a recipe book. |

QUOTE(Galena @ Oct 1 2005, 11:15 AM) also, this is one thing that books containing spells are good for (in fact, the only thing) read a few and it's good for inspiration. I've never used a spell from a book, but I've found some interesting ideas for how to put them together. My own input was going to be pretty close to Galena's. She beat me to it. I have had some interesting ideas from books. And these have helped shape my own humble methodolgy. |
