Following a thought provoking conversation over dinner, I thought I'd ask this question...

Science and Spirituality - can they co-exist?

For me?

One informs the other - in many ways they cannot be separated.

What do you think?
Jane
A lot of scientists would say yes, including Darwin, who considered himself a good christian.

They have to co-exist. The problem starts when one tries to replace the other, which is what the fundies try to do in schools with creationism. And an absolute scientist is no better. They treat science as a dogma unto itself.

There's a natural link between the two, as science seeks to explain, well everything, or at least study it, with parapsychologists focusing on the bridge between the two itself. And there are historic and symbolic links, as in alchemy as the forerunner of chemistry, yet a spiritual process in itself.

They are seperate areas with plenty of connections.

Yes. Science is a high form of magic wink.gif

But seriously, yeah, I think so. Science always runs out eventually, magic and 'god' is the little bit in between the known universe. They feed one another.

Lyall Watson's Supernature for example, or Paul Devereux's Dragon Project.

Best wishes,

Marion.

I agree, in many ways science has done as much harm as religion.

But even if they don't recognise it as, or call it, spirituality I can't believe any scientist can study the world around them without some sense of awe and wonder.

Absolutely. For me, magic is as-yet-undiscovered-science. Magnetism used to be considered sorcery and rainbows the work of the gods.

Love it.

There is a lot of overlap.

Absolutely! I can see a great future for Paganism in transcendental physics! biggrin.gif

I see science as explaining the natual divinity that was already there. So for me they co-exsist. If that makes sense?
Tilia
It does. Absolutely.
