Full Version: Book Of Mirrors
UK Pagan, The Valley > The Circle (all pagans together) > General Paganism

Hi all,
I know that some people have their 'book of shadows', but do any here employ a 'book of mirrors'. I knew my own BOS could fill up pretty quick, which is why I started my BOM, what with one thing or another I can still manage to fill up one of each a year. Even if you don't employ a BOM I would be interested in whether or not you thought such was a waste of time etc.

I have a diary which I have kept for years where I record all the 'mundane' stuff and a BOS where I record all the witchy stuff that I get up to.

I have a blog, does that count? smile.gif I've never had much luck keeping a book of reflections, but that's partly because anything pagan related and important ends up in my BoS anyway. The blog is more for ranting, musing and occasional memes on what my favourite food is and the like.

I can't imagine filling up a BoS in a year, you must be a very diligent note taker! Mind you, mine is an A4 ringbinder, so it does hold a lot, and I tend to prune it every now and then, removing any loose pages, and either copying them or binning them, depending on whether I still agree with what I wrote!

I have a book that I keep notes in, bits of plants, feathers and whatnot. Also keep sort of journal entries, dreams, journeys and things I've improvised in it. I don't call it a book of shadows or a book of reflections or mirrors or whatever. I have books from earlier in my practise that I did call books of shadows but I personally don't like that term anymore. I think it's been overused and since charmed, the term 'book of shadows' makes me cringe.

Gods, how I manage mine has changed loads over the years lol I started out with a book of shadows, then it became a disk of shadows. Then i got a book again and kept bits in it. Over the years I've kept poems, great writing by fellow pagans who have inspired me, but other things like feathers, acorns, conkers very much part of my path are dotted all over the house laugh.gif

Now, I have a ringbinger full of folklore stuff, some of my magic is woven into the stories I write, but most of the magic of being alive is written in my blog because like magic and witchcraft it hits all extremes. There is no difference between my magical path and the one I walk every day, I cannot separate what is the same.

If I was to name it all, I couldn't because it's now all over the place, and yet, the Book of Life would be the best summary for me smile.gif

That said, it really is fascinating to look back on how I was, and how I have changed, how I interact with my Gods and the long, long path that I eventually followed to find them having been waiting years for me. (Slow on the uptake you see biggrin.gif ) I note the seasonal changes, the changes in the land, air, woods in my journal, I live, breathe, am this land here. To know it is to learn it, to feel it, understand it, and by recording things this helps me both learn, reflect and understand smile.gif

LOL!

Aye, well, but there's some comfort in knowing you weren't the only one! wink.gif biggrin.gif

I have to say, I don't really keep anything written down. I should, it'd be a damn sight easier, but since my BoS was stolen by my ex I've become very wary about putting anything down in writing sad.gif Easier to keep it in my head. Fortunately, I have a bloody good memory so it's not a problem, but I think that in time to come I'll have to start thinking about jotting stuff down somewhere...

Oh aye!!! Probably why Witch's books - whatever they're called - are really kept secret.
