hey
I have recently met a Mormon who is fab even though he is a little "yay mormon" for my liking. I have been interested in learning about his religion as i didn't understand it as alls i got was a bloke woke up one day and decided make a religion. So after researching i found a load of sites sayin the Mormon founder stole a load of the beliefs from Pagan, but then other sites sayin Pagans stole beliefs from xtains and so on and so forth. It all got a little confusing for me as their was so much rambling. Can anyone help me and just clear up all this fog. I just want to know if Mormons used some of our Pagan ideas and if so what? and if anyone has the time tell me about Pagans supposedly stealing the xtians beliefs, because im soooooooo lost.
hope it all makes sense if not let me know.

Hi Molly smile.gif

I was in Salt Lake City a few months ago and travelling round Utah had the opportunity to learn a little (a very little admittedly biggrin.gif ) bit about Mormon beliefs.

Their teachings are that in about 600 BC (or thereabouts) one of God's prophets, Lehi, was commanded to lead a group of people to found a church on the American continent. Centuries later, in about 1820 (I think it was), a chap called Joseph Smith had some revelations which were accepted by his church as being true and holy words from God. His revelations including the infamous polygamy doctrine were in time accepted by his church as actual directives from God. Of course, now that's what the Mormon church is famous for, although officially they abandoned that doctrine in order to join the united states.

They are most definitely Christian. They have a slightly different slant on the teachings and origins, but there's nothing in their Bible to suggest any derivation from pagan beliefs. smile.gif

as well as the Bible the Mormons also have the Book of Mormon, and while they consider themselves as Christian (and I think most non Christians would assume this) other Christians see them as non-Christian.

The BBC has a good lot of bumf about them here http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/mormon/

Hello Molly,
Im from Britain but living in America at the moment (not for much longer though i hope ! ) i cant stand it here, and im surrounded by mormons , in fact my mother in law is mormon,
The ones here , im in Idaho right next to Utah , dont consider themselves as christain , well actualy they tend to live in a bubble really, Some are nice enough , our next door neighbours are ok, but then you get some who like to run the town and class anyone outside their beliefs as evil,
iv been called a devil worshipper (when they have seen my pentagram) and there are other pagans in town but they keep their heads down , one friend of mine darent wear her pentagram at work in case of trouble,
its not the wholesome american family life they like to portray over here, far from it,
thankfully me and my hubby are left alone , we are going to celabrate Samhain tonight with the couple of pagan friends we have here smile.gif
