Ok. not sure if this is the right place but here goes.....

One of my friends wants to know if there is anyone here, or if anyone knows of a hypnotist in the London area who does past life regressions?
Thinair
Actually, hypnotism and past life regression aren't always the same thing smile.gif I underwent past-life 'regression' without hypnosis about 7/8 years ago. It was an odd experience involving laying on a bed whilst a woman communed with my spirit guides to draw out information.

It was scarily accurate stuff actually, I have to admit to being semi-impressed (and it takes a lot to impress me lol I’m a bit of a healthy sceptic, so this is a big compliment).

Haven't tried hypnotherapy for it, I thought about using it for repressed childhood memories but, after giving it some serious consideration, I decided that whatever it brought up would probably require me to exam it and deal with it, which would in turn require time and space set aside, which at that time I couldn't guarantee myself so I left it alone. I think that's something to consider when going for things as powerful as hypnosis - you'll need to square with anything it throws up, so if you're going to do it don't just put aside the day to go have the therapy, put aside a week after that to think, meditate and get yer head back together. There might be some unexpected things there you'll want to explore.

Best wishes,

Marion.

PS - sorry, your friend will want to explore. That wasn't meant to say 'oh yes, your 'friend'', I just didn't read the original post properly before replying lol.

I had this done by Gary who runs New Aeon Bookshop in Manchester. I can't remember which professional hypnotist society he's a member of, but I believe it's one of the better ones. You could then find out from them who practices in the London area.

It was interesting, when Gary does it he tries to get dates and historical facts in order to check out how much is fancy and how much might be true facts, and also to look at where those facts might come from.

It's very interesting, although I remain a 99% sceptic.

This is the exact reason a former GP avised me never to have hypnosis. He was aware of my past and said that if I did allow myself to be hypnotised then I may never be able to get myself back from where I ended up. I Followed his advice and stay clear of it.

If they're repressed memories how do you know you've got them?

That doesn't make much sense does it?

Here's the link to the Institute I mentioned earlier. I've come across a couple of people who are registered with this institution and they're both hypnotists I would trust.

Sexual abuse can be a funny one in that respect, as with any traumatic event - not just in childhood but often in adulthood too. You may know the outline of events like 'this person did this to me', but there are a lot of things you also don't remember like who else was involved, how often it happened, exactly where certain events took place, what was said to you and also how you felt about what happened at the time. You can look back on things with a horror as an adult that you did not feel at the time of the event, because your expectations and the way that you learn to socially perceive things has changed. So I thought hypnosis would help fill in the blanks for me on an issue that, at the time, I felt was very deep and important.

Make sense Rhiannon?

Best wishes,

Marion.

No, still doesn't make sense. I work with people who've been sexually abused and I've not heard that before.

Of course, given the number of false-memory syndrome cases, regression hypnotherapy to look at recovering sexual abuse memories would be something that would require caution.

Well, good for you, but would you take my word for it? smile.gif

Well indeed, but your mind can do that even without hypnosis. With me, most of the details I could check and corroborate, but it was something private that I considered doing for myself as an experience to see whether that would help. It's like being ill in any other respect - you're willing to try a number of different options to get better, some are soothing and herbal, other's are the psychological version of chemotherapy. Over the years you try a number of different approaches to the problem.

As it is, I never ended up going down that rout and now it's of no importance, so no more story to tell lol

But yes, it's an important point if using it even for past-life regression - false memories are a danger with hypnotherapy, especially if you're going in there with any pre-formed concepts about what your previous lives may have been etc. I'd say the only way to work out how good it is would be to try it. Keep an open heart and an open head about it and don't drift off into twee fairyland 'isn't this all so wonderful' mode wink.gif

Marion.

It can and does work like that for some people. I have many full memories, but I also have lots of partial memories, and lots of things that "trigger" me but no idea why they do it. I figure in time these things will continue to come to the surface so eventually they can be properly dealt with.

Thanks for the link Rhiannon, and thanks for the comments. The upshot of which is that no-one knows a Hypnotist in London , far less one that does regression!! laugh.gif

Don't you have a local free healing paper? Aura is a big one 'round here, there's usually a free new-agey type publication in most local areas that have listings of all local healers. That would include it.

Best wishes,

Marion.

Hmm, looking in a local paper....I might do that... except for the fact that I am in Derbyshire and my friend is in London. laugh.gif

I will pass the advice on to her so she can look out for one local to her.
Thinair
Look for local hippie shop: Halcion Daze or whatever. In London she'll have nay trouble. Neal's Yard sometimes have 'em too. Wherever you smell nag champa you'll find an issue of New Ager. *grin*
