Hello all,

Like many of us, I've spent several years searching for my path. My "conversion" to paganism was in no small way influenced by my lifelong interest in ancient history and cultures. For years I sort copped out and referred to myself as being "Ecclectic"...but that was never really the case. I dabbled in Shamanism, Wicca, and various other variants...but none of them suited me...they just never felt quite right.

However, recently I discovered Celtic Reconstructionism and I immediately felt a deep, emotional and almost intangible draw that I've not felt before. I'm really, REALLY just in the initial stages of learning about CR and I was wondering if anyone here follows that path or has had any experience with it?

Cheers!

Where have you sourced your info on CR please? I ask as there was nothing in writing re what would have been done at the period I believe you're interested in, though as you will know, one can surmise a great deal from artefacts etc. plus word of mouth.

Umm, sortof (in the fact that I don't label myself as such but have a huge overlap in belief with that path). What do you want do know?

Also have you seen the CR FAQ here
http://www.paganachd.com/faq/

There is also an excellent celtic recon livejournal community at
http://community.livejournal.com/cr_r/profile
which is really good for reading through. Unfortunately you do need a livejournal to be a member of it to comment and read some posts but a lot can be read without it.

I'm drawn more by the CT than the CR side of things but I know that Imbas http://www.imbas.org and their related email list on yahoo are one of the best resources on the subject.

Yes the CR FAQ link that forest cat quoted offers a more concise explanation of the nature of CR source material than I could.

For me, my academic studies were what first drew me to the spiritual beliefs and philosophies of prehistoric cultures...particularly those of "Celtic" Europe. I have a real affinity with the CR view of polytheism...the deities of different cultures may have similar aspects and affiliations, but it is necessary to show the proper respect to the deities of the culture you are part of.

I also am very drawn to the social ethics and philosophy of ancient Celtic culture...honour, hospitality, courage.

As I've said, I'm still in the early stages of exploring this path...but I'm more excited about my spirituality than I have been for some time. I have that euphoric feeling I imagine others have had when they begin to see a way that resonates within them...when things start to make sense! However, I shall try to avoid gushing about it! happy.gif
