Full Version: Special Dream...

Hi all,

As some of you will have read from one of my other posts, my Grandma passed on, last Sunday (28th Jan). On Tuesday night I dreamt of my Dad's pet cockateil, Magic. Magic had got out of her cage and was flying outside, above my Dad's garden. I was distressed by this and as Magic landed in the garden, I went to catch her to put her back in her cage. I didn't manage to though. My sister and Dad weren't in the least bit distressed and said that it was lovely that she was now flying free. Magic took off but didn't fly right off, she just circled above my Dad's house and never went out of my eye-sight.

My sister is currently staying with me in my home as we are arranging my Grandma's funeral together. The same night I had that dream, she was woken during the night by a bird singing beautifully and very loudly. When she got up and looked out of the window to look for it, she couldn't see anything. It was well before dawn and the sky was completely dark, not the kind of time for a bird to be singing.

We wondered whether the dream and the bird signing were connected and whether the bird was, in fact, my Grandma who was now "flying free". It's interesting that these experiences happened just within 2 days of her death. When my Mum and other Grandma died, I had a spiritual experience connected with each of them within the same time frame after their deaths, too.

Just interested for people to share their thoughts on this one, particularly people who are more experienced in dreams and dream analysis than I am.

Many thanks,

Suzanne

I don't think it's unusual to dream of a loved one who has passed on. A couple of days after my Dad died I had a dream where he was talking to me and he decided to show me his 'true self' as Earth wasn't his real home. That was a few years ago but I still have sporadic, very vivid dreams involving dead relatives. Sometimes they have a pertinent message for me or someone in the family. My sisters have them too.

I think sometimes they can be a way of processing the emotions associated with grief but certainly some have been so incredibly vivid and 'real' that I believe communication has taken place.

Be interesting to see if anyone else in your family experiences dreams of her.

Can't add much to what Flaxen said, other than there's a belief that the sould flies free on the 3rd day after physical death, so possibly the bird has been there as a guide with whome she could connect and be led? She may have been reluctant to accept physical death initially, and have wanted to stayed behind a bit longer just to make sure you were all alright?
I think your dream was lovely, and very reassuring.

I'm in accord with what Flaxen and Tas have described, as I have had similar experiences throughout my life. I have also had empathic experiences where friends or relatives gave their farewell just before crossing that threshold. There was even one case of empathic transfer, where I had the most excruciating experience of a friend dying of massive heart attack. This degree of sensitivity, however, I would not advise anyone to persue. unsure.gif

I too seem to have sporadic, vivid dreams involving dead relatives - mainly my dad and my nan (his mom).
Shortly after my dad died, can't remember how long exactly, I had this really vivid dream of him, there was just something about it that was 'different' from other dreams.
All the dream consisted of was a vision of my dad sat on train, with green hills/mountains whizzing by in the background - looked similar to Scotland, possibly Glenfinnan area, which was one of his favourite places, btw - looking really happy and smiling, he also looked younger (thinner in the face, not so much grey hair! lol), and was wearing one of his favourite shirts from the 70's. I vaguely remember the shirt, but when I described it to my mom, she told me it was one of his favourites.
It was as if I was sat opposite him, looking at him through my own eyes - he didn't say anything just sat there grinning.
I just interpreted this as he was now free of pain and happy again, as if he was saying, "Look, I'm ok!"
