OK interpret this one....

Sometimes when i close my eyes and meditate i go to what i call the "Wild Place".

Here sometimes its sunny and warm, other times its stormy and winds are howling. There are animals about and i feel part of nature, the trees and animals are all known to me, like i was part of them and them part of me. Its like i'm watching this humanoid thing but i recognise it as me. This version of "me" is naked, slim, toned, buff. It has feral attributes, claws, horns, and cat like eyes. Where i touch the earth i become part of it and it part of me. I have my staff which i instantly recognise and its a spear-like thing, and i admit that i am driven to turn my staff into a spear for some reason. And sometimes when it is stormy in these visions, i am like a hunter and i am stalking prey, not sure what prey but its there. Then when its sunny and calm i am sitting, watching and just relaxing basking in the warmth of the sun. I'm always alone in these visions, apart from the animals and plants around me. Its a huge never ending woodland with streams, rivers, lakes, etc.

Maybe its just a cliche what i said but i don't know. And i bet people will say its a cliche to say all that stuff, but oh well. I can only say how i feel.

Should i go with instinct and instead of a staff create a spear? Why would that feel more instinctual and right?!

Is there something dangerous in the savage nature of these visions?

As long as you don't become obsessive or start trying to live out the phantasy aspect, I'd say go with it. If you are reasonably balanced, and not on medication (prescription or otherwise) part of you should remain sentient, so let your mind explore the wild place you have found. Do you feel at all threatened or vulnerable whilst there? Though this is not an assurance of your safety whilst "travelling" your instinct is a form of inbuilt protection (usually) and will tell you more than we can. It is YOUR journey. You may be tapping into either a primitive race memory, or a past existence. Should prove interesting!

I suggest you go have a mosey through some Jung, Grof and buddhanet.com - what you get here will be guesswork, what you get there will be guesswork of a higher level lol

I have meditated on it for some time and that is the strongest vision i get. I don't really want to try "drugs" as i just end up falling asleep generally.

My mate says that the vision is something to do with Herne or that so could that be linked into it.

But when he meditates, he goes all potentially feral!

Try not meditating for a while. If your mate says it's about Hern then go with that.

At the end of the day, no one else can answer that one for you. It's what's in your worldview and your headspace and the symbolic associations you're making that are putting you into that consciousness. You learn what it is by exploring it, pushing it or leaving it alone for a while. Find your balance. You'll get 100 answers from different people here and that, potentially, could become more confusing because you may start reading things into it that were never there in the first place.

Go ask it what it is.

Just stop asking. Experience it. If it's important for you to know what it is, you will. Not everything is important to know. It sounds like a pretty intense headspace so explore it with open eyes and the heart of a child. Magic is destroyed by daylight, so don't hold a lamp up to it. Experience what it is, experience the emotions it induces and the images you see. Then, let it float somewhere private inside of you, as a part of you, and see whether it grows. Anything that anybody says here, including this, is irrelevant to your situation mate. Enjoy.

Oh I'm sure Marion can post you a few suitable links or you can try the Native American Directory I posted in "Links", there are also the odd old threads on shamanism here in UKP. Go forth and explore!

Spirit of Shamanism by Roger Walsh's is highly recommended by many. Also, I like Mike Harner's classic The Way of the Shaman.

There's also the free Modern Shamanic Techniques trilogy by Phil Hine. It's been some time since I read them so I can't honestly remember whether they were any good or not lol But they're free. You may want to have a brows of some of his other stuff - Oven Ready Chaos and Aspects of Evocation are very worthwhile, though chaos magic-oriented.

There's also the classic work Shamanism: Archaic Techniques of Ecstasy by the great man Mircea Eliade but it's a bit heavier going than the above two.

Those books are very good starting material that will fill you in on most of what you will probably want to know to begin with. The first two by Walsh and Harner are top notch. You may find Harner easier to get on with and lighter - eminently readable.

I think Quas could be onto something there. I mean this is what shamanism is all about really. Taking on another body os to speak and exploring within it. MAybe next time, before going itno that you could ponder on something you need an answer to.then see where your journey takes you?

The HErne link is a good one Id say...perhaps you are experienceing things thru his eyes in a way, or rather, your mind is tryign to let you see how it might be?

I do "travel" but havent changed form or anything. In fact, i tend to feel formless and ethereal. I dont touch the earth, i float and fly. BUt what I DO get is chat with the animals, ral conversations and my totem, the robin, comes and i journey with him and see things from his vantage point.low donw and flitting thru.

Would love to know how you get on PB!
