I was pondering this yesterday.
Do I believe in ghosts?
I believe very strongly in reincarnation, so how can there be ghosts?
I suppose during the transitional phase between passing on and being reincarnated..or joining the Gods if we have completed our journey on Earth(personal belief) there could be appearances? But..if Ghosts exist from hundreds of years ago are these spirits that for some reason haven't continued their cycle?

So my question is
"Do you believe in Ghosts?" Please answer from a personal viewpoint, but if anyone has a holistically Paganistic viewpoint I would love to know.

I completely believe in ghost. When i was about 6ish i saw an old lady sitting on my mums bed, she was all white. I ran down stairs to tell my mum and our lodger that we had a burglar! They wen't upstairs and no1 was there. I told them both what she had looked like and my lodger said it sounds a lot like her deceased aunt, a few weeks later she showed me a picture of her aunt and it was exactly the same person. Now this was before i even knew what ghosts were and i hadn't watched a scary movie of anything so it wasn't my imagination.

I haven't seen her since but i can't be in my mums room on my own now, i just get a feeling of some1 watching me lol

I do believe in ghosts, although I've never actually seen one.
I think they're often people who haven't completed their journeys to whatever comes next, because they may not have realised that they're already dead or maybe they refuse to believe it.

Generally, ghosts are a phenomenon of inertia in the space-time continuum. Some examples of this, I have given in the thread "Earth Lights" under "Earth Mysteries", and another on "Shadows" (not sure where that one is though). Indeed, in such a state of inertia, the unwillingly departed can manifest themselves for whatever reason. Sometimes they are simply trapped there, due to a violent departure from this life, or simply refuse to let go, perhaps until some unresolved matter of their life finds closure.

i believe in ghosts, altho I havent seen one ai have been around some poltergeist activity.mostly centred on me when i wa a youn girl.
However, i believe there are different sorts of "ghosts"
1) Ther a visiting spirits of the deceased.those you may be able to contact. I believ these are people who have passed on and have completed there journey, but are able from time to time to communicate. guide etc us here.

2) "pictures of the past" these are simply 3d recordings on a builing/area etc and are not actually sentient beings in any way.think of roimans or monks walking thru the same wall etc or sounds on a battlefield at night

3) "ghosts" these are the type who haunt and are beings who have not moved on to whatever stage comes next. Can they be helped by some mediums etc to move on? Wll i think it depends on why they are still hanging around.

4) poltergeists.This is more of an energy manifestation, usually associated with a child. There are various theories on this but I havent entirely made up my mind myself.

I suffer quite badly from the "phenomenon of inertia in the space-time continuum".
Usually this manifests itself at the exact moment the alarm clock goes off!

I too believe in ghosts, if you've read Cos' musings on the soul you'll be familar with the theory that our soul comes from the universe at birth and then returns to it when we die... Ghosts are souls that have some how managed not to dissapate back into the Universal spirit but for some reason hold themselves together.

I had a similar dilemma when discussing this with someone one night. I don't believe in spiritual reincarnation (I think - jury's out) but I do understand physical reincarnation in the sense that we are all ultimately compost which feeds new life.

However, although I am wary of mediums etc., I don't discount the idea of ghosts.

Perhaps ghosts are the energetic reverberation of a person. Am i right in saying that "hauntings" are usually associated with traumatic events?

Although I heard a quote on the radio this morning about a team of ghost hunters who went to Ireland to film a haunted house. They asked the current occupants how they felt about the "hauntings".

The man replied " Well, to be sure, they don't haunt the place they just live here like we do"

*takes a deep breath*

Bare with me here hon...

All life is energy, when we die that energy dissipates and goes back to the multiverse. If we are taken suddenly, violently or for whatever reason that causes our energies not to be ready or not willing to move on they can.. because they still want to hold together in their previous form.. "hang about" for want of a better way of putting it... hence ghosts.

Similarly, even if those energies have been scattered... if someone is strong enough, and if the energies are available, they can pull some of those energies back together... hence.. seance.. talking to the dead.. etc etc...

Finally.. there is an infinate amount of energy in the universe. All the energies that were people or will be people is already here, if in the course of making life energies are needed they can come from anywhere and it is very possible for pieces of energies that were once someone else to get flitered into a new life.

Brief... not fully coloured in and Ive gone outside the lines a little on this but that is my belief... my personal one... take it, leave it.. *grin* Can go into much more detail but dont want to bore the life out of everyone here!

Treehugger pretty much summed up my belief in ghosts, which comes from several sightings of the buggers, and a very interesting visit to a medium - if she was cold-reading, I'll eat my hat! I am open to the idea that they might not be exactly what I think (the dear departed, energetic recordings etc), but whatever they are, they are there.

There's certainly something there. I've never seen a ghost in the "classical" snese, but I've had sufficient experience to believe that there is something that stays behind and that we can't explain yet.

I go with treehugger's No 2 suggestion, I don't believe in ghosts or spirits.

Ive never seen or experienced a ghost, but I do believe in them, and know of some family members who have had some 'ghostly experiences'.......

I believe ghosts exist. Our old place was haunted. Most of the noises and events you could put down to ordinary things, but when an object moves across a table of its own accord when nothing else is disturbed you think "hello..."

Since I believe reincarnation is a personal choice it doesn't clash with ghosts existing.
