Full Version: 21st C. Working Tools?
UK Pagan, The Valley > The Circle (all pagans together) > General Paganism
Tas Mania
It occurred to me that we have progressed since the earlier days, and that our working tools might also have altered to take account of "progress" ...

Instead of the besom for travelling, I have wee red Noddy car (Nissan Micra!)
Erm, an electric carving knife instead of the standard athame?
How does anyone fancy a disposable paper challice?
Screwtop mini bottles of supermarket wine, rather than mead...
Sachets of salt from take aways! (Lo-Salt substitute even - yeuch!)
Slow cooker for a cauldron - or use the microwave? (Far less messy, won't go rusty)
Ever Ready battery powered safety "candle" lights...
Lycra/polyester robes, teamed with a skip cap instead of the pointy headgear? (Mmm, tasteful - NOT!)

Still trying to figure out the wand - though judging by some of the gew-gaw encrusted pewter tat online, others have already given this matter some thought!

Suggestions?

Exactly what I need fer me rituals - and the BEST thing here is the link to Darth Tater, SpudTrooper and Artoo-Potatoo - no more long nights stitching up poppets fer Tas!

I notice that many of the witchy tools suggested can be used for a number of other tasks, i.e. an electric carving knife / athame, and the Slow cooker / cauldron. So why not have a dual purpose wand like the one featured in the link below, which would be ideally suited to any "fluffy" dolphin loving witches.HERE

Ahem, will an electric cattle prod do? As for remote viewing I have a 1.2 meter parabolic dish with heavy-duty 180° motor drive with universal LNB for digital multi-satellite surfing! laugh.gif

A Glade plug - in (one with the wee fan) instead of insence ?? tee hee blink.gif

What do people do with wands? I never figured out a use for them!
Freydis
Hmmmm, I can think of a few uses, but I don't think that I'd better describe them. Suffice to say that they're physical rather than magical.

Generally, in modern language, wands are ceremonial and/or have associations with magic but there have been other uses, all stemming from the original meaning as a synonym of rod and virge, both of which had a similar development.

A Virge, from the Latin Virga, is a type of rod, made of wood. It is presently best known as the ceremonial staff of the Anglican and Episcopalian lay church officers known as verger (or originally virger : the title derives from virge), who originally used it as a 'weapon' to make way for the ecclesiastical procession (compare the catholic garde suisse), and occasionally to chastise unruly choristers. (o_nono.gif o_perv.gif !)

Freudians would suggest that wands may express phallic symbolism of domination.
Well they would, wouldn't they! tongue.gif

& finally, again gleaned from Wikipedia, "Given their various symbolic and other associations, wands are suitable pervertibles, especially for role play. "

Eh?! ph34r.gif

Can I have a Tazer? Although I might need two. Don't fancy getting my Tazer confused with my erotic rabbit blink.gif

As to pervertibles, something once read long ago has just bubbled up in my memory: a rationalisation for the flying on a broomstick thing. Some alkaloid-based hallucinogens have their best effect when applied to mucus membranes. Where are some of the most sensitive mucus membranes? And what might one use to apply the potion? (For all I know this is actually true and all the old hands on here are nodding sagely to one another. dry.gif )

It may sound odd but I have a consecrated stanley knife for risting my runes. I have other wands staffs cups etc but it is the only thing which I use just about all the time.

My patron gave me this shortly after he claimed me. So I guess it's the nearest thing I have as a Heathen to a Wiccan's athame. wink.gif

Yeah, it does make 'em look pretty effete.

When I say mine was given me, it was literally that: I found it in some woods. Perfect condition and nothing closeby to give any indication of who might have owned it.

How about this for a green man statue?

user posted image

It's called a Green and it's by Pete Fowler (Monsterism). My friend bought me one for christmas and it sits on what is sort of my alter smile.gif

The information card on it says the following:

Life form - Seed let
Habitat - Trees/earth
Diet - Water and Nutrients drawn from tree
Notes of interest - These mobile seeds fall from trees and can run to their desired plot to germinate into a seedling. The inner substance found inide of the green is revered as the tastiest taste ever. Although they are illegal to eat without a licence, poaching occurs

There's more info about the creature on the website too smile.gif
