Pete's book is a useful overview of the various pagan paths, and I found it very useful when I started out.

I read Kate West's The real witches guide.. I found that quite useful, never actually got a hold of a copy of pagan paths, but believe it was quite good, I also read a lot of Scott Cunningham's work.. these are wicca based books and i've since passed them on but maybe you could read the pagan paths book first before choosing which direction you'd like to look at next and sorta go from there.. hope that helps smile.gif

Hmm really the way I see it as one who has little time for the other types of modern path inventions surely 'the female spirit' is purely feminity or one who follows a Goddess only? I mean the Pagan Federation link above has quoted from Starhawk, The Spiral Dance of all hideous books ohmy.gif

It states, "In Paganism, women are Priestesses in their own right, strong and proud, with their own vision." blink.gif Since when did that happen? In Wicca maybe but most certainly not in the majority of the rest of Paganism. I am no Priestess of any kind but I am pagan and a witch. Strong and bloody minded o_lol.gif

Your best bet Venus is to really follow your heart. Learn to know and feel the land, the ground beneath you, the sky above you. If deity call you then find what you can about them. (Warning, it may take years to find them) as we don't find them, they find us. You may find that you have deity like many pagans. The path is long but ultimately extremely rewarding. Good luck in your search smile.gif

If you want to know more about Goddess spirituality, you can start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goddess_worship
The site has a few examples of books you can look up concerning this. My tip is, though, to always keep an open mind. In the beginning of a journey (as I found myself) it's easy to take in all the info you read about it and see it as The Truth. Especially if you feel instantly drawn to it. Someone said earlier that The Spiral Dance by Starhawk is a hideous book, but if you are interested in Goddess spirituality etc, you might find it useful. I found it helpful when I embarked on my wiccan path. Good luck!

Hear, hear o_hail.gif I would also suggest that the same thing applies throughout our path where ever we are on it smile.gif

Meditating can be useful. That's how I started. Just putting out the feelers and seeing what happens (suitably protected of course) and who turns up. For a while I kept seeing this chap but he refused to say who he was until much later.

HI Venus Books are all very well ,good informative books can be excellent reference points, but if you want clear pointers seek out the Godess herself .Look to what feels good and right ,get out into the elements that bring you in touch with mother nature herself is there a natural place that you could go to and tune in ,I,m sure that you will find your answer out there and gather extra info from books
good luck and safe journey

yes Pete Jennings is a good author but tends to lean towards giving you most info about his own path. (which i dont mind as its i'm Heathen too) i have 4 of his books.

I think most pagans are effectively preists or priestesses whether they use the title or not.

Pagan traditions have very few back seat followers. Compare a pagan group to a C of E Christian Church for example where you have on priest doing all the work and the congration just turn up and follow instructions. The emphasis is on turning up regularly and trying to lead a good life.

Then you have paganism - Wicca Witchcraft and Druidry with their levels of training effectively creating priests from everyone involved. The emphasis is on improving your skills and your understanding of the religion to the point where you can pass that information onto others.

The same goes for anyone working alone. If you are providing your own religious needs your are your own priest or priestess.
