I have no idea how I got there, but found this list of content for a book and thought it sounded mighty interesting. Anyone into this?

Like the bit on 'learning to die'.
Quasizoid
Yeah I was for a while, still into Taoist logic and strategy though. cool.gif

Never come across this before. Looks interesting. I'm a little puzzled at the Satanist thing in a Taoist book though.

Heh, there is no one "satan" in Chinese Mythology, rather, a whole host of demons and hobgoblins that hail from the underworld. Mind you, the Chinese too have their nine worlds much like you find in heathenism. However, even within these realms, things are pretty multidimensional. It's a very complex pantheon, forever engaged in a great cosmic struggle. Like the Naga relief you see in Angkor Wat, it is from between the struggle of these two supernatural armies churning the "milky ocean", that earthly existence arises. wink.gif

That's what I thought, Quasi, which is why the Satanist part of the book puzzled me.

I reckon though, they might be refering to this guy (quoted from Angelfire.com):

Dai Rokuten no Mao (Devil King of the Sixth Heaven): Many devils appear in Indian and Buddhist scriptures, the most formidable and powerful of which is the Devil King of the Sixth Heaven. He is the king of devils who dwells in the highest of the six heavens of the world of desire and delights in manipulating others to do his will. He is regarded as a symbol of lust for power He is also called Takejizaiten, the king who makes free use of the fruits of others' efforts for his own pleasure. Served by innumerable minions, he works to obstruct Buddhist practice and delights in sapping the life force of other beings. He corresponds to the last of "the three obstacles and four devils"9. Nichiren Daishonin interprets this devil as the manifestation of the fundamental darkness inherent in life. Especially in Buddhism devils are interpreted to mean functions that work to block or hinder people in their Buddhist practice.

Food for Captive Ghosts...?

Recognizing Ethnic Enemies, and Cryogenics, plus The Hidden Danger of Hospitals sounded a bit prophetic!

But I really related to It Is Hard to Be a God. happy.gif

Whilst these ones seemed a tad "fluffy" - The Moon Fairy's Spell & The Fairy Rides a Donkey. Huh? o_fairy.gif

I even found one tailor made for Quasi! Target Shooting. o_devil.gif

And some for Wolvie too - Urination Jinx, and Spells to Quell Agitated Waters! o_bolt.gif

Laughing aside, I wouldn't say no to a copy - it looks fascinating.

Regarding the incorporation of Satan - may be similar to the Hindu approach to Buddhism: Buddha being the 9th incarnation of Vishnu, although the Buddhists don't accept that because Buddha is a man, not a god. Similar to the incorporation of saints into West African diasporic religions. Worldviews in which everything is legitimate. I particularly like those smile.gif

Sounds very very very interesting Thin. smile.gif

Lelthehun
