Many moons ago, a Spiritualist woman I knew told me to stop worrying that I couldn't see the colour of people's auras, because I could feel them. She set me off trying out the textures of colour, seeing how they felt to touch, what feelings I got from them, even moving onto how they smelt.

This has been a project I've come back to with remarkable frequency over the years. In truth, it's probably something I started playing with at primary school when we had to write a poem about a colour. My colour was red, and I can remember saying it was the colour of anger and smelled like burnt toast. It's still what I find certain shades of red smell like!

As far as touch is concerned, I've found that a bright 'true' red is like soft thick animal fur. I want to sink my fingers into it and paddy-paw the way a cat does before lying down. I want to warp myself up in it. A paler red, not pink just a pale red, still feels like fur, but it's more like baby rat fur and I want to stroke it. A really dark red feels like the fur of road-kill, matted and dried out in places, but gooey in others, a feeling that makes me recoil from it.

Blue is slippery; green feels like early morning grass cover in dew on bare feet; black feels like velvet; white feels like feathers, but cold... you get the idea.

So, my to my rather rambling point... how do colours present themselves to you? In auras if you deal with them, in meditation, or in life generally.

Colours hmm! Colours are very thing that lift my spirits and I like lots of them. When I make something , I always over-do it with the colours and it gets very 'busy'!

If I have a headache, I imagine a nice cobolt blue engulfing the little dull red spot that is the headache. So blue to me is soothing.

Red is powerful and hot! .Lime green is 'minty'fresh, uplifting . Dark green to me is cool and damp. White is crisp (like fresh bedsheets), black is strong and bold. Yellow is uplifting!. Violet is friendly. Purple my favourite colour! Brown is homely. Chocolate brown is yummy. Orange is just bright!

edited because I forgot pink! Baby Pink (ugh!) reminds me of candy and bubblegum! Other pinks just remind me of flowers for some reason.

I'm not that visual a person, and frequently say for example "Pass me that blue jumper" only to have someone say "that's green !" so I think I might be a bit colour blind. However I do associate colours with notes when I play music - C is bright strong red, F sharp is yellow, B flat is indigo etc.
maybell
I think all people see colours in a differant way and also use colours in a differant way, for example daniels list (waves) not everyone would say those colours mean what they mean on the list, but then like everything it comes come to personal experience.

We brought a carpet once that was swore was green in the shop but when we brought it home it looked blue.

i always think of yellow at spring, green in winter (i know odd), red in summer. I also used to hate purple now i love it, its my ages isnt it?
Daniel
My list was only a general idea of what most people believe. I personal dont see auras. I see random orbs of light from time to time.

I believe this association of notes with colour is called synaesthesia. There was a documentary on Radio 3 a while back about it and a lot of musicians and composers saw musical notes in colour when the music was playing.

I'll post my ideas later on when I've got a little more time, but I have a question.
If you were blindfolded would you be able to tell what colour a card was by the feel alone? Or is it that seeing the colour suggest how it should feel?

I think I might have caught that programme. I know a musician friend of mine sees music in shapes (she's never said if it's in colour or not) that play with each other. Kinda like an animated abstract painting.

To be honest, I've not tried having an actual colour in front of me and being blindfolded. The closest I think I could say to having tried it would be with auras and colours that aren't actually 'there' in the physical sense, and I find it easiest to deal with those without an visual stimuli a lot of the time. I tend to work in reverse when dealing with auras, I get a texture and then play with it until I know what colour it is.

When I've been meditating on the colours to try to build up my library of what each one feels like, I tend to have the colour in my mind's eye rather than to hand. I might have to have a go with being blindfolded and then trying to feel the colour, but I doubt I'll have much luck given how rubbish I am with those ESP cards! laugh.gif

A quick note having just re-read the original post, I just want to add something with regards to black. If I encounter it in an aura, it generally means there is a problem with the area it's covering, usually illness. In that situation, it feels like oil, but more the way I think sea-birds feel when there's been an oil spill. Kinda unclean and it always seems to make me shudder.

I get feeling responses to mixes of colours - yellow and orange together are stunningly cheery and happy, and there's a certain shade of blue that is like cool water all over when it's with turquoise. Hubby loves things like yellow and blue together because they vibrate so much, but they just make me uncomfortable.
Ethereal
Fuzi its interesting that you sense black within an aura as oily. I also sometimes get that sensation from peoples auras, but in my case it is not an indication of illness. That slick "icky" feeling usually indicates a person that is "wrong", i.e. dangerous, to be avoided wherever possible. Fortunately it doesnt occur often as it often leads to difficulties, for example a couple of years ago we had a new work colleague with that going on. He couldnt understand why I wanted nothing to do with him, unfortunately I couldnt really explain. Turned out after several months of him working here that he had been beating his wife...

I never get tired of talking about colors! smile.gif

I'm fascinated hearing about the senses of feeling them, that I don't have.

I'm very visual and my house is very colorful.. but NO blue.. blue makes most people feel nice and calm, it just makes
me feel manic as hell!! and very very irritiable..

Yes, there was a women, i think on Oprah, who could actually see illness and music in color and know what was wrong w/ people and learned eventually how to heal them..

I use color therapy, a lot to calm down, mediate. &.CHARKA Work..

I love greens, yellows, pink and purple is my fav..but in small doses.. all over my house...plus lots of flowers, candles.. very girly house, lol.

A wise friend, introduced me, to visualizing color baths, just pouring a bucket of
say pink, from my head down and seeing it go over all of me.... using various colors, but always finishing off in white.

I liked the color list, that was interesting.... I can't see aura's, but i sure can feel emotions! .. usually too much..(empath)

My fav colors just can make me feel sooooooo happy!!
I think they have this wonderful, incredible power, of their own..
truly magickal! smile.gif

and of course, for shielding..... i agree black is usually not a good aura color.. and ohh can anyone taste them??!

By day... well actually... by night most of the time... I'm a professional trumpet player. One of the things I think about quite a lot is the sound that I make on my trumpet. I'm often changing my equipment and thinking about how it affects the sound I make playing different styles of music.

I often think about colours when trying to create different sounds on my trumpet.
I think what I usually achieve is like a blue... I aim for a purple... it kinda changes with volume....

Interesting. smile.gif

I played the trumpet as a lad and in my mind had different colour representations for the diferent finger patterns and notes. First valve only was blue, first and second was red, first and third was green, open (no valves) was white. Second and third and all three together was more complex - sort of a dark orangey red - but I can still see it now! smile.gif

Kitchenwitch
I love dark colours like midnight blue and deep purple. They 'feel' safe and comforting.
When I close my eyes sometimes in meditation I 'see' a rich mauve coloured shapeless image which I always 'feel' is the Goddess.

Bright colours make me 'feel' irritable and 'wishy washy' colours make me 'feel' depressed. Funny how I had never really realised all of this until you asked the question. Lol!
Flowersolstice
I love colours, When i think of any colour i sense it on my body, it's hard to explain. For example, when i think of pale and medium blues and yellows i feel a rush of coldness over my body and i feel cold for a while.

However, When i see a deep, dark blue i feel calm and relaxed. Though, at the moment i'm attracted to bright colours because they make me feel happy and energetic and warm.
Moonhunter
Colours and textures affect me profoundly; if my operating environment is 'wrong' in terms of the colours/light levels/textures etc, it affects my work.

But I'm willing to wear colours I'd never have on my walls or carpets. tongue.gif

I like to be surrounded by wood, where possible. Otherwise pale yellows, greens - but never blues: I find them too cold.

I once had twelve different tones of yellow splashed on a wall before I found the right one!

I don't see auras in general. The only time I came close to it I was at a railway station going down a staircase and, round the twist in the stairs below me, I saw a man. It's hard to describe what I felt - it was the colour of stone: dark grey; and emanated outwards from him for several yards. It was extraordinarily powerful. I wanted to get away from it and wash it off.

I've met the famous before and never had that affect from any of them, even when I thought them prats. This was ...strange.
GypsySpirit
I "feel" rather than "see" auras - but I do see colours in my third eye sometimes during meditation or crystal healing sessions. I believe colours emit a healing vibration as do many natural manifestations - and I LOVE rainbows. When you think about it, a rainbow represents perfect balance, so if I give myself a "colour shower" or "light shower" as I would probably say it would usually be rainbow lights - or white light.

It's interesting that you mention the "feel" of black as negative energy in someone's aura and it being like oil...I feel that too. It's a very interesting point, thinking about whether all colours can have a negative and a positive side to them (like most things in life)...

Red can be angry and hot but it can also be lush, warm and loving; yellow can be sunshine and gentle heat but it can also be sickly; blue can be a calm breeze but it can equally be an icy grip. I'm sure I could think of negative and positive manifestations of every colour. Black can also be a protective impenetrable shield as well as "oily" if it has consciously been put there.
