Hi All.

Today I was lucky enough to be given a piece of spirit quartz (ametyst). It was brought back for me from Magaliesberg in S.A. from someones farm.

Now I have to admit I know little to nowt about crystals, so would appreciate any info you could give on this.

Amethyst? That's my birthstone, never heard the term 'spirit' quartz before but it is quartz so I guess...

The general info given as to it's properties are that it's a good stone for healing, protecting and aiding creativity, psychic ability and spirituality. If you go in for crystal healing then amethyst is what you want for insomnia and problems with most organs.

Me, I find it a nicely comforting stone and one I like to wear. I enjoy working with it, like snowflake obsidian I find the pieces I have designed with amethyst work paticularly well.

Have checked through all my reference books on crystals and can't find anything about spirit quartz though, have to say it's a new one on me.

I vaguely remember reading something about 'spirit quartz' being another name for smoky quartz or some other common version of quartz. The term 'spirit quartz' was given to it in order to be able to charge more money for something that is worth a few pence.
