Thought I'd share THIS - it's from Butare National Museum in Rwanda. It's not the best write-up but good enough with some interesting snippets on divination in particular.

A little anecdote I shall share about Butare museum. When I got to this section there was one part that puzzled me: in the section on umupfumu (witches) and traditional beliefs (linked above) it explained that your body is made out of two things: 'umubiri', the flesh, and 'igicucu', the shadow.

'Amos,' I asked our guide when we got back in the van - 'am I missing something? I know the word 'igicucu' but doesn't that mean 'idiot'?'

'That too,' he replied.

So it would seem that my shadow is an idiot tongue.gif

There's such scant info on anything to do with traditional beliefs here - it's one of those countries Christianity did a complete whitewash and it's still too wrapped in it to go asking around or promoting a revival.

This is the largest source of info I've found thus far.
