Inspired by recent activity in the animal companion threads, and perhaps because I studied botany once upon a time, my thoughts turned to plants and their potential as spiritual companions.
As a simple exercise, I meditated for a while and then attempted to build a scene in my mind while trying not to make any conscious decisions about what I could see, in a sense I was trying to let the scene compose itself . Without going into too much detail, four plants appeared in the following order:
A dandelion in the North of the picture,
A Rowan tree in the East of the picture
A fir tree (of some kind) in the South
Some bull rushes in the West.
I am now wondering about my 'choices' and what interpretations/insight pertain to them. Although I realize that perhaps the best interpretations will be personal and best made by myself, I am curious as to whether anyone else has tried this kind of thing and was willing to share what they found or what they did with the information they gained. Also if anyone has any plant knowledge/lore that they think may have a bearing on this topic I would also be interested to hear about it. In the meantime I will be doing some googling to see what I can find out.
Alternatively you may simply want to point out that I am barking mad and suggest a good therapist
More generally, does anyone here incorporate plant life into their spiritual outlook in a specific way if so how and why.
Peace,
DM
