Full Version: Which Witch?

Hi there...

I'll come straight to the point, hedgewitch, kitchen witch, stitch witch... is there such a thing as a garden witch??
This literally popped into my head just moments ago (planting a few seeds for indoor use, hoping that they don't care what month it is!) and I wondered if there is such a 'path' or if people call themselves garden witches or something along those lines?

As I don't generally do spells (what I need I've got, if not I'll get it myself), I'm abit flumoxed where to start when needing a helping hand - quit smoking, climbing the walls etc!
Planting seeds seemed to me a good place to start, as the plants grow so will my will?!
So, yeah, if you can follow this and maybe even shed some light on this for me I would be so grateful!

Diolch!

(PS, sorry if this is in the wrong forum - brass tacks or new age???)

I see no reason why a garden witch wouldn't be an acceptable term. I'd probably qualify it more as 'hedgewitch' myself, but I guess that's because I see garden-related things as being associated with being a hedgewitch.

I can already hear those who think that there's nothing wrong with just being what you are', but I know that I almost need a label to know what I am. I don't mean a label given to me by another, I mean a known thing which I believe describes aspects of me the best. It doesn't have to be an existing term either, just whatever seems appropriate.

So, back to the topic wink.gif ... if you feel that you're magic is mainly based in a gardening capacity, then garden witch is a suitable term to use for yourself. But don't let it restrict you in any way, and don't be afraid of changing your idea about your path later on.

Good luck with quitting smoking, I'm gonna be doing it soon myself blink.gif

Yes, Garden Witchcraft is a thing. Hedgewitchery is something else, not to do with shrubbery, it can mean a solitary or in some circles it means a Shaman type witch, one who walks the edge of reality. I think Kate West did a book on Garden Witchery, if that's the sort of thing you like.

Yes, garden witch is a recognised term as are herb witch and green witch. If you love gardens, are interested in plant lore and grow your own plants and herbs then it is about right.

I think someone called Ellen Dugan wrote a book called Garden Witchery, Magic from the ground up. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...0055956-1812625

Also you can read a book called "Wild Witchcraft" by Marian Green...

I know what you mean Fuzi, by giving yourself affirmation of who you are really does help, I think anyway!! tongue.gif (did that make sense?)

I've got a whole load of books on my 'wish list' now, thanks for your recommendations.

One thing I noticed about these garden witchery books is they tend to veer towards fairy and enchanted subjects. Not meaning offence to anyone I find these kind of things 'fluffy' and don't know if I'd be able to take these books seriously.
Can anyone recommend a down to earth, mud-up-to-ankles kind of book?

Thanks again for your replies smile.gif
