Full Version: Can Anyone Analyze This?

I used to have this really weird rcurring dream...when I was little it used to happen most nights. I'd be doing something perfectly normal, just dreaming normally....then the Jaws theme would come on. When it hit the crescendo I would start floating up in the air and all over the place uncontrollably. The only way I could get down again would be if I grabbed Theo (the cat we had at the time, grey one who hated everybody.) So most dreams as soon as the music came on I'd run to find Theo and grab her. But if I didn't find her I';d be floating away...and I found it terrifying!

One night when I was about 5 or 6 I decided in my dream, "OK I've had enough of this." and when the Jaws music came on I waited. Theo was there to grab but I didn't. I waited for it and decided that if I was to be forever cursed with this weird flying affliction I might as well try to enjoy it and learn to control my floating. As usual up I floated. And instead of panicking I swam about through the air and floated around Coalville precinct, and really started having fun.

After that night, I never had the dream again. Never ever again. Ever.

Anyone got any sort of insight on this?

ok i'll have a go,

as you were very young it might have been that you had to make yourself grow up a little by overcoming something totally unrelated to the dream thing , you may have unconsciously thought to your self, i need to be able to deal with this, it could have been something as simple as being afraid of the dark or standing up to a bully but what ever it was, made you feel that it was something that you SHOULD overcome and you knew you needed to, to carry on growing and maturing because it was holding you back.

i see the cat as your security blanket, it was something real that made you feel safe so you reached out for it.

in the end your dream didnt return because you overcame your fear and made the next step along the way to growing up.

just my 2 peneth anyhow!

I used to have flying out of control dreams at one point too, except mine always used to be interupted by a female voice telling me "Wake up, Don't you relise your dreaming."
These dreams can actually symbolise a lack of control felt in your life (but as this happened when you were about 6 the chances of it relating to that are minimal.)
Nor do I think it was astral projection, as through my own experiences, I know it is possible to dream about flying without it necessarily being astral projection! But who knows!

Yes, I agree with Arty. The dream itself may have been a result of some fear you had has a child during that time. If you saw the movie Jaws at the age of 5 or 6, that may have spurred the dream. It may have scared you, and the music was scary in itself. But, as Arty said, you were able to confrount the dream....and your fear, which is the reason you haven't had the dream since.

They all sound quite good....yea, the Jaws music is creepy ;P

I know I've allways had a fear of dangerous situations...even the smallest danger......I've never climbed a tree further than two feet up it, I used to take AGES climbing over fences and styles in case I fell off, my teachers thought I had a co ordination problem because of the over careful way i used to climb stairs......the first time I was put on a donkey, I screamed and screamed and screamed until I was taken down, and refused to go in the sea......

I'm not quite so silly now, fences and styles and stairs and horses and sea are not a problem.....but trees and high fences....and ditches that need jumping.....and bungee jumping.....eeeeeugh

Thanks guys tongue.gif

Yes, I can identify with that Fay. I'm a complete klux and tend to stay away from anything I can fall from. I don't even like having to use my step stool to get anything from high shelf. laugh.gif And I don't even want to think about bungee jumping. Went skiing once and found out going down a snowy mountain at 60 miles per hour totally out of control was not my cup of tea.
Fay
eeeeugh.....60 mile an hour down a mountain with potention to fall in a ravine......... *shudder*
Can't even ride my bike offroad without being scared of falling off......I'm terrible! But I've never broken a single bone in my body in my entire life in thanks to my overly careful way of going about things" tongue.gif
