Posted this on yahoo and it got kinda lost so here it is again!
Funny old game this paganism! Pondering to myself as I was tonight I fell upon an analogy that works for me in rationalising where I am at and how I came to be here,
See when you begin its like being presented with a set of building blocks but not all are well moulded, not all fit and sit comfortably with the plan you have, but you explore them, you turn them over and see how the edges might be refined a little. Some you discard because well they just dont gel, they jar your nerves and spoil the grand plan. Some are way too over worked and the shape is too warped for you to get that architectural vision you started out with!
You persevere choosing and discarding till you find the tower begins to build, that sanctuary you have yearned for begins to formulate and as you sit one evening and the sun sets you realise that the foundations are in place you feel solid, able to walk with confidence! The walls are taking time but they feel dense, well reinforced and comfortable. Sometimes holes appear and damn that draught can be annoying, when reason and direction seem to ebb and flow, when the wobbles begin and you ponder if the whole thing was worth the investment. Usually after some care and repair you begin to block up those cavernous holes and find an insulation that comes with an assured resolve.
We all work with those building blocks some choose red, green and yellow, some prefer natural wood, some manufactured and modern materials. But they all allow us to build something someone will build their own palace with the raw materials. It might not look like yours you may scoff and dislike the design, collude with friends who have the same tastes as you and make sure that the critics are out in force when someone wants to parade and show off their pride and joy! Its human nature to observe and critique we can offer constructive criticism and help people along the way , perhaps suggest new materials and a better mortar ; or maybe we just sit and chuck those stones and watch them falter ,watch the cracks appear in their newly crafted plaster. Whats the better way? Do you remember as a child when you piled those bricks high time went as you laboured and firmed up the structure it didnt matter that chaos went on around you, that focus was there immovable and refined. Hey presto it is done and you stand awaiting approval but other kids will smile and pat you on the back, others sneer and turn away and some just are hell-bent on destruction and that tower gets a swift kick as they sidle past ostensibly to the playground. It shatters and you are left with the shards the pieces need rearranging and you are just not sure if you have the strength to do it all again?!
Some people spend years training to be architects, equipped with set square and a piece of paper declaring their expertise they receive acclaim. But remember no matter what their style or what materials they use; how they build and who they choose to assist them your vision is yours to craft, yours to shape and hone into that dream. Your walls are your pieces in the jigsaw that make up your path to a life you have yearned for. You will know when you have got it right as that moment falls upon you on a moonlit night and you feel the strength, the solidness of your decisions.
So when the foundations seem to rock, the bricks look a bit battered and wobbly; when you think that everyone else knows better and seems to gain the acclaim remember - that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder both your eye, your needs and desires, and those of your energy/deity call it/them what you will the truth is in your own heart and they will know this. Your commitment is your own and your path acknowledged in each thrilling rainbow, rainstorm, shimmering heat wave and cooling forest. In each scuttering creature as you laugh with joy at their abandon and the warmth and love that your path, your strength and your devotion will radiate to others. So stand fast find those blocks and make them your own!
