I could have sworn Walpurgis nacht was the eve of St Georges Day... Lifted wholesale from Dracula of course, but l recall that if you see a mysterious blue flame burning on that night you should mark the spot and return the next day, it marks where money has been buried.

Raa - years of reading Dennis Wheatley books returns to me whenever someone mentions Walpurgisnacht or St Johns Eve. Perhaps I'll go out and be wicked...

Me too El - but I know my mother considered it an evil night. She said it was 21st April and always sealed the doors with hawthorn at sunset .... but maybe she'd read too much D Wheatley too!

As far as I am aware Walpurgis Nacht is the Germanic equivialent of Halloween and is on 30th April, all the evil fairies, etc are out and about, this is why the Morris dancers wear bells on the legs as they are to scare away the evil fairies, Beltane is a celebration not only of spring and fertility but also of having survived Walpurgis Nacht.
