Full Version: Signs Of A Witch
UK Pagan, The Valley > The Circle (all pagans together) > General Paganism

I read of a woman who knew she was a witch as if she was awakened from a previous reincarnation. She even had 3 nipples and began to meet other witches who had 3 nipples too. This was of course purely by chance and is an old superstition that a sign of a true witch is the 3rd nipple. It was laughable that this was being proven true in her new circle of friends but what I really found weird was as I read that remembered I too have the sign.

As far as I know the 3rd teat idea was a pure invention of the Witchhunters. They "proved" witches by finding this teat which was meant to be for suckling the familiar.

It could be anything at all that protruded, like a wart (hence the stereotypical wartywitch) or a mole. They would prick this area and if no pain was felt, that proved that it was the "unnatural teat" As a lot of skin anomalies have no nerves or very little blood supply, this was usually the case.

So if you have one - not surprised, lots of people have moles and warts or tiny cysts that stick out.
drachenfach
What Ma said, AFAIK it was an invention of the witchhunters.

If it was true, that would make me a super powerful witch, as I'm covered in moles!

thebanringwanderer
Its true what you say, but when I was born the doctor saw it was an undeveloped teat. Its just an odd thing I find funny especially since I never knew other witches actually had them too but apparently there are quite a few. Queen Elizabeth I had a 3rd too, then again she wasn't a witch.

Third nipples are not as rare as all that, it's just as common in non pagans! Might as well say that knowing a lot of red haired witches means that's a sign. That was a fave of the witchhunters too
Cosmic_Fool
third nipples - well Scaramanga and Chandler Bing come to mind wink.gif

Extra nipples
Most people have only two nipples, but about 1 in 50 people (both males and females) has more. These extra nipples are not as well-formed as the main nipples, so you may have them without realising what they are. Imagine a line drawn between the armpit and the inner thigh, the extra nipples are usually on this line.

I havent.I do have a mole on my leg though.

No not Elizabeth- it was her mother, Anne Boleyn, who had a third nipple.
Sherringham
Thought Anne Boleyn had an extra finger?
Fortuna
Yep, it was definitely a third finger.

Out of interest I have 46 extra nipples, giving me a total of 48! Apparently though, as I have an even number it means that I am not a witch. Comes to something when you can be entirely covered in nipples and it doesn't mean anything.

I also have webbed feet and gills, but I don't think these are signs of being a witch either sad.gif

Ann Boleyn had apparantly three breasts,an extra finger and a large mole on her neck.
Theres rumours that Elizabeth 1 was a hermaphrodite.Apparantly. blink.gif
Fortuna
Three breasts!......no wonder Henry VIII found her a handful.

I'm not sure of the extra breast but I know it was a deformed finger (pinky) I think that labeled Anne Boleyn as a Witch, among other things once Harry got tired of her too.

Elizabeth 1 probably had what is know as a 'nun's hood', an extra thick hyman which would make penetration extremly painful. This is part of the reason why she never married as she knew she would'nt be able to have children.
HorseCrow
Yes, she was also said to have an extra finger- but also a third breast (nipple), in the form of a large mole on her neck.

Well, that can be discussed- there was also a strategic, political reason in her not marrying and keeping suitors hanging for years. Allies were won at the prospect of being able to marry her and by not marrying she kept herself as the sole ruler- as opposed to having to share her throne with a husband. She was a woman in a mans world and she knew what she was doing.

Elizabeth had many reasons not to marry including seeing what happened to her mother and her life was iffy at times as a child. And what happened to her half sister Mary. She was a Queen first and a woman second. On the other hand, she was pressured and knew that the monarchy needed an heir and she knew she wouldn't be able to provide an heir so marriage simply wasn't necessary. It's also the reason she was referred to as the 'virgin queen'. Some people make much of the fact that she used heavy white makeup to enhance the Virgin aspect but the heavy white makeup was used to cover her scars from smallpox.

I agree. I have about 10 books on her life and politics, she was a very clever woman.

Have to agree with all those that say lots of folks have mole that are classed as "third nipples". I'd a been a gonner in days of yore... heres my checklist...

1. Red Hair

2. Third Nipple (mole)

3. Odd eyes ( one eye blue - other eye half blue half brown)

oooh and I can cackle!! blink.gif

She's a fascinating person and I've always been fascinated with the Tudor/Elizabethen era. A lot of intrigue and romance. Harry has so much potential as a young man but succumed to self absorbtion and greed turning from a handsome man to a bloated and sick older man who bankrupted his country. Elizabeth pulled the country out.

On the question of a sign of the witch, I remember my Grandmother saying that a person who had a 'widows peak', the clump of hair in the middle that forms a point when you have your hair pulled back, meant that you had psychic powers. I have a half of on. Figures, being basically half-arsed in most everything else blink.gif laugh.gif

Brighid
I have a third nipple. As someone said they arn't that rare.

O but no third breast. o_redface.gif
WoodSong
Hmm - I have long toes, which apparently is a sign of being psychic, and a second crown in my hair.

And a widow's peak.

And an area on my body that won't respond if pricked with a pin laugh.gif since some wretched child stapled a couple of my fingers together when I was on work experience and the resultant scar tissue has no feeling whatever. Since which time I've been determined not to work with children - they scare me!
morrigan
My second toes is longer than my big toes and i my arms and legs bend backwards.
Wonder what that makes me.. wink.gif

There is also some informed speculation that Elizabeth suffered from hereditary syphillis. Henry VIII had a tertiary syphillitic ulcer on his leg, for which he was treated to the end of his life, most especially by Katherine Parr, his last wife, and it has been assumed that Elizabeth knew that she had this disease, which would have made her sterile and that was another very practical reason why she didn't marry.
fuzi
That's assuming he had syphillis before she was born. I'm with the others on the political argument. If she'd ever 'been' with a man, then she would be seen as a weak wee thing you wasn't fit to rule. It'd have been even worse if she'd had children. And there'd be the squabbling from the suitors who weren't chosen.

On with the witches' marks, my second toe is longer than my big toe, but it seems to be the case on a lot of people I know. I got told it was an indicator of being a witch generally rather than specifically psychic.
Galena
I have four buttocks.

oh hang on, that's just a bit of saddlebagging.

I do however have claws on my little toes. I kid you not.

Me too- and I have been told, that when that is the case, you cannot get married in India. But I have no idea whether it is true- it was a woman who has lived in India who told me, when she saw me in sandals.
winterblue
Suddenly the odd 'spare tyre' doesn't seem so bad.

As for Elizabeth 1, with the kind of power she commanded (and all credit to the woman) she could have flown round the palace on a broomstick and no-one with any sense would have dared to notice.
