Greetings all, i've been studying on and off now for about 3 years, i haven't practised much only the odd protection spell, and healing spell, i stil class myself as a beginner due to poor memory lol, so i got to re-read things lol, i do try and meditate, but can't, i know it takes time, but i haven't given up, i'm interested in lots of things really, crystals, candles, herbs etc, and currantly studying advance crystal healing and magick herbalism, but i'm not sure what path i'm following, if i am following a path, can anyone help? or got any tips/advice?
Halo
Keep Reading and Practicing! I'm probably less experienced when it comes to actually practicing than you are (I've not done any rituals or spells as yet, even though I'd love too) but I have read a hell of a lot on different traditions, and the way magick actually works, aswell as various divination means, shamanic paths, and theories on multiple universes...It's well worth reading as it helps spur you on and broaden your horizens!

I'm not sure what to call the particular path I'm on, so I've given up (for now, at least until it solidifies into something more recognisable) and call myself generic pagan simply for ease of use. Or I'll call myself New Age Hippy if I think it will wind people up and give them the impression that I'm all sweetness and light (obviously I am, but it spoils the image if I admit that to them tongue.gif ).

What you're learning sounds very interesting, and I think that your path will become clearer to you in time (if nothing else, then by a process of elimination!). And there's no rush!

One of the things I like about being pagan (however you define the term) is that I can go at my own pace and learn what I want without having to justify it to anyone else (except as and when I choose to).

Relax, there's no rush to find a path or Practice with a capital P. I've been blundering along pathless for years and you know, when I look behind me I find I've made one all of my own biggrin.gif You've got at least one whole lifetime to do this and none of us is ever more than just a learner. Oh yes... have some fun too.
Halo
I too am pathless as such, and have been searching for over 3 years (Despite only being 18!) but I don't despair, I delight in researching other paths and learning from others, but I have ALWAYS had Pagan inclinations, I think I'm just naturally Green-souled, if there's such a thing! tongue.gif

I'm very much the same as Esk. Stumbling along, reading this, reading that, accepting some throwing out alot, but always learning.

The path is not necessarily important unless you like labels. Enjoy what you are and be happy.

keep on as you are, reading, learning, you will know when the time is right, and as others have said, when you look back you may well find that you have created a path of you own.

You don't need a path when you have a machete.

make your own.

I think there comes a time when you have to ditch the books and just get on with it. You never do stop learning along this path (be it pagan or magical), the books can only ever guide you, it's up to you to get on with it and learn what it means to you. Find out what the moon cycles mean to you, find out what the Gods mean to you, find out what the land around you means, can you hear it? Really hear it? Not the audible sounds it makes but the inaudible sounds? No book can show you that. Use the books to guide and inspire you, but don't rely on them and only do magic if you want to. Many Pagans are non-magical although few books will tell you that as spell books sell well - to those who have no get up and go of their own. And for the hard working witch who really does need a spell for something really important - well a spell of that kind is never found in bought books but comes from the heart, with real research of your own, knowledge and intution. I have memory and concentration problems, but it has never been a hinderance to me because I go by instinct and it has never ever let me down yet within magic or ritual, once I ditched the books that is smile.gif

Your path will because clearer evey step you take, without necessarily reaching an end.

There is always more to learn or to experience

I don't believe that two people follow the exact same path, so why strive to name it when everyone's is unique?!

My path, I find is a mixture of many and some ideals of my own thrown in. I'm no where near being truly knowledgable in any one area or subject; In the vast scheme of things and the reality of the amount there is to learn, I call myself a novice (But atleast I have the common sense to learn instead of opening a book and just doing, unlike some. biggrin.gif) So again, why strive to name it. You don't need to justify your path to anybody but yourself, so naming it, to me, seems pointless.

It's not a means of justifying your path, more one of defining your path. It does help a little when chatting with others to know where you're coming from etc. because those following wicca, heathen or shamanic patsh are quite different to my own. You get a rough idea of what the person knows, believes and feels smile.gif

Sounds like you are already walking your own path.
Yes, ditch the books.
Go out and experience it from the elements and within yourself.
I have terrible memorey, sometimes I have to go over things a few times before they stick.
But just keep doing what you do.
You will find yourself without looking.

smile.gif good advice.

Absolutely.

Never stop reading, never stop expanding you range and depth of knowledge, but alway's bear in mind that your path will be your own and can be completely unique to yourself.

As others have basically said; take and use what you need, remember the rest for experience's sake, the good and the bad, it's all there for you to enable you to form your own opinions and walk your own path.

Be yourself.

Blessings,
Yes, books can open up new directions, but you are in charge of where you go.
Also remember that books, well the people that write them are voicing thier opinion, and you take and leave what you want from each thing you have read.
The path your on is your own, and many wonderful and not so wonderful things happen, but all is a learning experience.
I am happy to also be a "generic" witch or pagan. (some call it ecclict) but what the heck here I am now in spite of some wrong turns that I made. tongue.gif
Many books are also the hard work of the writer, and have alot of heart and soul poured into them, and some Im afride are just there to get your money.
Sounds like you have a good direction that you chose, keep on and let the natural energies and abalities that you have keep you strong.
