Halo
I am truly mystified. Today, I was sitting in my kitchen, lookin through the patio doors to the garden, when I noticed that all the sparrows were coming roght up close to have a look (a few actually nutted themselves on the window...yowch! blink.gif ), which they've never done before, and I've always wanted to see them up close. Well...they eventually left, but then something even stranger happened. Now, I absolutelt ADORE the collared doves we get in the garden, and thought it a shame that they were so shy, would you believe it, no less than 5 came right up to the patio window for a peek at the kitchen (I've only ever seen 3 at the most in our garden before...oh yeah, a few of them also nutted themselves...Doh! wacko.gif) I have ALWAYS wanted to see them up close, and I love doves above all other birds. Does anyone have any suggestions as to whether it's significant or what?

Maybe you had a big juicy spider below your window who was just out of reach.
Baldur
I am sure they felt that you like them and that it was safe to come closer - for whatever reason. biggrin.gif

Maybe, but I'd like to think that Baldur was right... unsure.gif

I've just started putting stuff out for the birds on my window ledges, and there are now a couple of jackdaws who visit, who are amazing birds, and very vocal! I'm hoping that they are getting to know and like me a bit.

Our garden birds can be very tame, but from the sounds of it I'm afraid I would say that it's more likely that some food source was nearby, or even on the glass itself. It could also be that the reflection of the glass was getting their interest which can happen.

Both my mother and I whistle when we put out food for the birds. It's great fun to see them coming to feed although my mother has more luck than me because here the feathered darlings are often down in the woods instead. But the squirrels know the call biggrin.gif My mum has a blackbird who reminds her if she is late putting out the apple for them o_lol.gif

oh lucky you though - never mind why they came to visit - its just nice that they did! biggrin.gif

i did have a similar experience the evening before last. i LOVE magpies, they are the best bird as far as i'm concerned laugh.gif and two of them were perched on the fence posts of the field behind the house, back to back like little bookends! they even stayed long enough for me to get a photo of one of them. the other was obviously camera shy laugh.gif biggrin.gif

I was up in the Orchard today, and a gorgeous Buzzard was circling lazily above me. it was really relaxing.

or maybe it thought I was carrion.

They might have been there for a reason or not.
Perhaps they were there to make a dream come true.

Whenever there is a nice day for comming up, a squirrel will come to visit me.
not exactly a bird, but it works for me
