[Wiccan Web] Hestia: The Overlooked Olympian

Nice article this, it's very much how I see Vesta. She has a very important place in my house but she does tend to get overlooked.

Interestingly, in Religio Romana rites, to speak to your chosen deity, you should first ask and offer to Janus, who guards the doorway, and then offer to Vesta as the custodian of the hearth :)

I think I remember Bettany Hughes talking about Vesta in Divine Women. Interesting article. :)

Over the last year or so Hestia has become a very important goddess to me; i have a special tea-light holder on my mantle and every night i light a light in honour to Hestia and take a moment to connect to her. Additionally to what has been said in the article I experience Hestia as The centre of everything: the universe, my home, myself. I ask her for her blessing on my home, my family, my community, myself -- and to feel 'at home' in my actual home and within myself.

I also find that Hestia can -and does- help when I don't feel all well 'in my own skin' -- she can help me regain that feeling of being fully centred.

In that context she can also help along the path of self-possession.

Blessings -- Capri )O(
