When we talk about understanding, surely it takes place only when the mind listens completely – the mind being your heart, your nerves, your ears- when you give your whole attention to it.

On the path of devotion, the relationship between the devotee and deity is personal and unique. Your father’s Hanuman can be different from your Hanuman. Maybe his Hanuman doesn’t allow him to cut nails on Tuesday, your Hanuman might allow. The devotee assigns characteristics to the deity out of love. There are as many deities as there are devotees.

When I was younger I was obsessed (as many were in the 90s) with the idea of wealth.... One day I read a quote (well part of a quote) from Seneca the younger that has stuck with me since then... I remind myself of it quite often to stop myself longing for things I don't have.

Quote

"When we have provided against cold, hunger, and thirst, all the rest is but vanity and excess."

'I have been and still am a seeker, but I have ceased to question stars and books; I have begun to listen to the teaching my blood whispers to me.'

"forts, barren of structures,

hollow, a stronghold coming from mistakes

a devastated time,

many homeless,

an excess of lords,

joy in evil,

a cry against traditions,

bearded faces.

Equipment decaying,

numerous exploits,

finding battles,

silent towards a spurred horse,

numerous assemblies,

treachery of lord's sons,

covered in sorrow,

crooked judgement of old men.

False precedents of judges,

a betrayer every man."

from The Second Prophecy of MorRigana after the battle of Maige Tuiredh (Moytura).

"Forever destructions have departed

Fruit on trees

A branch drooping down

Drooping from growth

Wealth for a son

A son with wisdom

Neck of bull in yoke

A bull from a song

Knots in woods

Wood for a fire

Fire as wanted

Walls new and bright

Salmon their victory"

from the first prophecy of MorRigana after the battle of Maige Tuiredh (Moytura).

Freedom and love go together. Love is not a reaction. If I love you because you love me, that is mere trade, a thing to be bought in the market; it is not love. To love is not to ask anything in return, not even to feel that you are giving something- and it is only such love that can know freedom.

Jiddu Krishnamurti

What is my goal for this life?

It is to leave the world a slightly better place for me having lived it.

The traveler has to knock at every alien door to come to his own, and one has to wander through all the outer worlds to reach the innermost shrine at the end.

"I think the Mother is gradually revealing itself to me and taking over. But it is not the Mother alone. It is the Mother and the Father, the male and the female, sort of gradually having their marriage."

-- Venerable Bede

'And Joy is Everywhere;

It is in the Earth's green covering of grass;

In the blue serenity of the Sky;

In the reckless exuberance of Spring;

In the severe abstinence of grey Winter;

In the Living flesh that animates our bodily frame;

In the perfect poise of the Human figure, noble and upright;

In Living;

In the exercise of all our powers;

In the acquisition of Knowledge;

in fighting evils...

Joy is there

Everywhere.'

Ravindranath Tagore

A Permaculture quote from David Holmgren.

Traditional agriculture was labour intensive, industrial agriculture is energy intensive, and permaculture-designed systems are information and design intensive.
